Day 00Arrival on the plateau

Almaty → YurtaDa Assy Plateau — onto the highlands

A 120 km transfer climbs into the Assy Plateau. The first afternoon is gentle — settling into yurts and walking out into the open ground.

  • Morning — Transfer Almaty → YurtaDa Assy Plateau (120 km, 2.5 hrs).
  • Midday — Check-in at yurts. Welcome lunch.
  • Afternoon — Orientation walk on the plateau.
  • Night — YurtaDa Assy (2,600 m).
Day 01Eagle, fire, stars

Ile-Alatau foothills — a full day above the city

Alpine hiking, a berkutchi demonstration, and the campfire under a sky that comes back fully at 2,600 m.

  • Morning — Ile-Alatau NP: alpine hiking in the Alatau foothills.
  • Midday — Eagle hunting demonstration (berkutchi).
  • Evening — Dinner at camp. Campfire under open sky.
  • Night — Stargazing at 2,600 m. YurtaDa Assy Plateau.
Day 02Across to Charyn

YurtaDa Assy → Charyn Canyon — sandstone towers in sunset light

A long traverse off the plateau drops down to the Valley of Castles, walked in the warm raking light of late afternoon.

  • Morning — Depart YurtaDa. Traverse Assy Plateau.
  • Midday — Bartogai Reservoir viewpoint (photography). Descent to Charyn Canyon NP.
  • Afternoon — Valley of Castles guided hike in sunset light.
  • Evening — Dinner by the canyon. Night: Charyn Canyon eco-cabin camp.
Day 03Into the Tekes Valley

Charyn → Tekes ethno-village — water, gorges, banya

A scenic transfer with two gorges and a reservoir along the way, ending in the long-settled Tekes Valley.

  • Morning — Departure. Bestyubinskoye Reservoir (swimming and photography).
  • Midday — Orta Merke Gorge + Shet Merke Gorge (picnic lunch in the gorge).
  • Afternoon — Arrival at Tekes ethno-village. Check-in at yurts. Banya.
  • Evening — Dinner. Local music. Night: Tekes Ethno-village.
Day 04Nomadic immersion

Tekes Waterfall & the living traditions of the valley

A full day with the household — felt, bow, horse, eagle, dombra — closing with a fire ceremony under the stars.

  • Morning — Ride or drive to Tekes Waterfall.
  • Midday — Return lunch at ethno-village.
  • Afternoon — Nomadic immersion: felt-making (shyrdak), archery, horsemanship (kokpar). Eagle hunter (berkutchi) demonstration.
  • Evening — Dombra performance + fire ceremony under the stars. Night: Tekes Ethno-village.
Day 05Khan Tengri & return

Tuzkol Lake — the panorama of the Lord of the Sky

The final morning opens onto Khan Tengri itself, then a long road back across the high steppe to Almaty.

  • Morning — Drive to Tuzkol Lake. Panoramic view of Khan Tengri massif (7,010 m, Lord of the Sky).
  • Midday — Komirshi Gorge exploration. Farewell lunch by Tuzkol Lake.
  • Afternoon — Transfer Kegen → Almaty (~320 km, 6 hrs).
  • Evening — Arrival Almaty.
